JOHN Kyrle High School is enjoying a very successful athletics season. Seventeen students qualified to represent Hereford District at the County Championships held at Nunnery Wood, Worcester on June 12th.
Samantha Griffiths won a bronze medal in the Intermediate Girls 100m, with a time of 12.8 secs, losing out on the silver by just milliseconds.
Jonny Shipton gained a bronze in the Junior Boys' Discus with a throw of 29m 69 cms in his first outing to the County Championships. He was in second place until the last round of the competition, but was narrowly beaten into third spot.
Also in the discus, Danni Ward missed out on a medal by just 20cms in the Intermediate Girls Discus being squeezed into 4th place with a throw of 22m 67cms, close to her personal best.
Mark Alston took six seconds off his personal best in the Intermediate Boys 1500m, running 4mins 42 seconds to break the school record which has stood since 1982. Also claiming personal bests were Ali Raine and Rebecca Ralphs in the Intermediate Girls Triple Jump with jumps of 9m 81cms and 9m17cms respectively, and Max Parker in the Junior Boys 800m with a time of 2mins 25secs.
