Ross Juniors took 18 under 7s to Monmouth recently for their first games of football. Many of the boys have been training with Ross Juniors for a while and were all excited about playing on a proper pitch with referees. There were two teams from Ross, the 'reds' and the 'whites' playing against two teams from Monmouth in a mini tournament.

Monmouth have been playing as a team in games for a while and were expected to have the upper hand. This belief was dispelled after the first six seconds when Jordan scored for the reds against Monmouth A. Jacob, Archie and Toby also scored and the game finished 4-2.

The Reds then went on to beat Monmouth B 2-1 and then the Whites 1-0. It was a great team effort from all 9 boys that made up the squad. Harry was excellent in goal, Max, Felix and Jack proved excellent utility players and Mark scored the goal of the tournament with a well rehearsed move with Jacob straight from the kick off in the second game.

On the second pitch the Whites battled well with some sterling tackles from Tai, Charlie and Ollie. Archie and Archie worked tirelessly to create chances and were ably supported by Ned and Jack. Leo and Michael both year 1 boys were playing a year up and worked very hard, Michael even made a penalty save in the first game. The boys were narrowly defeated 1-0, 3-0 and 1-0 in their games and were desperately unlucky not to score several times.

The boys are now training until the end of June with a few tournaments to look forward too. Then next season they will make up an Under 8 side for the club in the Herefordshire League. Training takes place Monday 6-7pm behind the Ross Rowing Club. New players are always welcome as is anyone interested in helping out coaching.

The club has more than 25 year 2 boys training and with a new coach could enter two teams in the league. Please call Paul on 762957 if interested.
