Ian and Eira Pugh of Three Ashes, near Ross-on-Wye, had great success at the annual Ross Christmas Fatstock Show held on Monday, November 26th. 

As well as winning Champion in show they also won the Smallholders class cup (for those farming less than 100 acres), first and third prize in the Best Heifer class, first prize in the Over 650kg steer class, second prize in the Best Steer class, and the Cup for the most points awarded over all classes.

The Champion Beast (named ‘Mary Miller’) - a stunning Lim X Heifer weighing 496kgs, was sold for 485p per kilo realising a total of £2405. Mary Miller was bought from DJ Lloyd and Co, Cefn Barach, Trefeglwys, Powys.  The calf purchased out of Knighton Market (McCartney’s) on May 4th, 2018 was out of a Lim X British Blue cow and sired by Pedigree Lim Bull ‘Guy’.  Mary Miller was purchased by Tim Hanks of Cornwalls Family Butchers of Ross-on-Wye.

The reserve Champion was also exhibited by a regular supporter, Mesr DE & SJ Cheacker and this sold for 335 pence per kilo (£1,853).

The Christmas Market and Show at Ross was well supported with a larger than usual entry of cattle. The overall trade compared favourably to the previous week. Lambs met a buoyant trade with quality selling to £107 – 252ppk.
