This year’s entry to the Hereford County Drama Festival, held at The Courtyard in Hereford on the evenings of March 9th, 10th and 11th proved highly successful for the team from Ross-on-Wye’s Phoenix Theatre.

The Phoenix team presented an original one-act play – ‘Can Malone Die?’ - which was written and directed by David Pollard. This secured the Andrews Trophy for the best original play in the Festival.

On-stage, Phoenix members Tim Betts, Phil Field and Hettie Guilding turned in gripping and thoughtful performances. Their efforts were rewarded with both The Oswin Cup as best novice entry and the Wye Cup for third place in the overall competition.

The Phoenix however never rests on its laurels and all attention is now focused on the theatre’s next show which will be Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera ‘Ruddigore’. Tickets are now on sale for the performances in the week commencing Monday, March 27th.
