ROSS Cricket Club played host to Woolhope in a friendly match as the 2010 season got underway at the Park.
Winning the toss they chose to bat first and put up a pleasing total of 193 thanks to Stuart Mair (69), Harry King (34), David Skyrme (18), James Tiffen (13) and Rob George (11*).
Opening bowler A Parks (8-2-10-2) kept things tight and A Thomas (8-0-36-3) was the leading wicket taker for the visitors.
In reply Woolhope kept up the required run rate with W Green (24), A Parks (39), B Park (44) and A Williams (28) leading the way, but the Ross bowlers kept things tight at the end of the innings and the visitors came up 9 runs short.
In pre-season friendly Ross entertained Ruardean Hill The Park on Sunday 25th April and came up 42 runs short. The visitors chose to bat first and set a challenging total of 175 for 8 in a rain interrupted 35 overs. Opener Paul Weaving (51) was the top scorer and he was supported by P Ballinger (39) and Martyn Symonds (29*).
James Gill (7-0-37-3) was the leading wicket taker for Ross with debutant Dan Barton (1-0-7-2) bowling the final over.
In reply the home batsmen were never able to keep up with the run rate and pressure told as they got further and further behind. They came up 42 runs short with Jack Waldis (49*) top scorer.
