Ross Cricket Club 1st XI played Harvington, the match balls were sponsored by incrediprint.com.
Ross were put in to bat on a firm, dry wicket. Opening batsman James Tiffen proved to be the mainstay of the Ross innings and showed great maturity in making 51 valuable runs. Stuart Mair (19) helped take the score to 50-2 before Andrew Bevan joined Tiffen for a 95 run 3rd wicket stand. Bevan's contribution was a typically hard hitting 72 which included 60 in boundaries.
Ross were looking to post a target in excess of 200 and the 7th wicket pairing of Daniel Barnard (26 not out) and Anthony Giampalma (14 not out) steered Ross to 203-6 with some sensible and responsible batting.
The Harvington opening pair, who the previous week had both made big 100's, started where they had left off with a series of extravagant strokes. However, Andrew Bevan beat Andre Delport for pace and the visitors were 24-1. Left-hander Nathan Gage calmed things down and was batting with great authority and at 168-2 Harvington looked in complete control. Ross were looking for some inspiration and when Tiffen had Gage (78) caught by Daniel Barnard at deep backward square leg the game started to change.
Some aggressive fielding coupled with accurate bowling proved decisive as Harvington were reduced to 188-8. After Andy Waldis took the 9th wicket in the penultimate over, Harvington had scrambled to 202-9. The first ball of the last over saw Adam Lee edge James Tiffen to short third man but Jack Evans, who had fielded superbly all afternoon, chased down quickly. When Lee turned for his second run it was a straight forward race between batsman and fielder and Evans' accurate throw enabled David Skyrme to whip off the bails with Lee about a metre short of his ground.
This was a superb team effort with a tie probably a fair result, By virtue of picking up more bowling bonus points, Ross picked up 16 points and Harvington 14.
