WEDNESDAY February 29th is the fifth Rare Disease Day. It is an annual, awareness-raising event taking place across the world, bringing greater understanding of conditions most of us have little contact with.
Amelie Morgan, who lives with her parents and older brothers in Ross, was born in July 2011 with a rare genetic disorder called Prader-Willi Syndrome and, as far as her mother Anna knows, "the only baby in Herefordshire with the condition." Despite her condition, Amelie is a happy and contented baby.
Prader-Willi syndrome is a rare, complex genetic disorder, which is present from birth and continues throughout life. In 95% of cases it is not hereditary and can thus occur in any family.
Rare Disease Day is open to everyone – the more the better. For more information on the day visit: http://www.rarediseaseday.org">www.rarediseaseday.org
