THE ROSS on Wye XI caused a monumental shock in the Davis Wood Hockey League Severn Division holding league leaders Cardiff & UWIC B to a 0-0 draw in Cardiff.
Ross held on for 70 minutes to keep the previously free scoring Cardiff & UWIC B at bay. Ross changed from their usual formation of 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1 in the hope of congesting the midfield and frustrating Cardiff & UWIC B with Adrian Williams dropping into midfield from up front, with Tom McCluskey left up front on his own.
Williams proved to be a constant thorn in Cardiff & UWIC B side. To say Ross were just holding on would be unfair they did look dangerous on the counter attack with the pace of Patrick Wilson on the left and the work rate and determination of Kristian Franklin on the right. It was the latter who had a glorious opportunity for Ross to steal the lead in the first half when he stole the ball from the Cardiff defence who were playing from the half way line and he powered on into the Cardiff "D" but was unable to lift the ball over the on rushing keeper before he was taken out.
