Madam, I agree with Peter Martin, (letters June 27th) and his comments on the proposed removal of our Swimming Pool to John Kyrle School. Whose stupid idea was it anyway? And why is it necessary? I wonder how many of "the powers that be" actually use our lovely pool, surely we, the public, the schools, the Swimming Club, the Gym users, regular swimmers etc should be asked first.

We are very lucky to have this facility, which was upgraded and refurbished to give the public an even more enjoyable and comfortable experience when we use this pool. If it was moved to John Kyrle there would be even less time available to the Public and this, in my opinion isn't very much as it is.

Not everyone has the use of a car or bicycle and so many people come by public transport or walk to Red Meadow, it would also inconvenience the staff.

We see the results of Ross Council's decisions. The removal of the Tourist Information to a very undesirable and "out of the way " venue.

I have worked and taught in larger Swimming Pools for over 30 years and it was always accepted that Public Amenities were important and not out to make a huge profit. In a time when we are being told how overweight we are all becoming, to close the existing pool while the new one is built is (which is what would happen) a most stupid decision. Leave Red Meadow Pool alone and spend valuable resources in tidying up the Town Centre and derelict buildings and possibly updating the other facilities for the people of Ross.

As Mr Martin says, if it isn't broke don't fix it.
