Motorists are being reminded to plan their journeys carefully this Sunday, November 20th, whether they are planning to drive through Ross-on-Wye or attend the Christmas Fayre.

The Christmas lights are being switched on in Ross at the Market House this Sunday at 4pm, and this is part of the Christmas Fayre, which is taking place in the town from 11am to 5pm.

The High Street will be closed from behind the Market House up to, and including St Mary’s Street, finishing at the Royal Hotel car park, from 6am to 6pm.

At the same time, Copse Cross Street will still be closed as the Western Power Distribution contractors continue to lay underground cables.

Councillor Hannah Lerego is reminding residents that with the closures in place, people should not park their cars in any of the roads overnight on Saturday, November 19th as it will block the lorry arriving with the stalls. Any cars left in the road will be blocked in by stalls after 6am.

There will be free parking in the Herefordshire Council car parks in Ross on this day

PC Richard Barradale-Smith told the meeting of Ross Town Council on Monday, November 14th that he hoped the road closures had been well advertised. He said that he had noticed a lot of motorists are currently using Church Street but, as this will blocked, the road closure that day needs to be well advertised. He said: "It would be useful if the people of Ross know that there will be issues on that day.”

He added that he hopes the Christmas Fayre is a great success.

Volunteers are still needed to help at the Christmas Fayre. If any residents wish to volunteer, Cllr Lerego would be pleased to hear from you on 01989 762164. She would especially like someone to help in the grotto at the Royal Hotel with some basic face painting.
