Last Wednesday members of ProRoss, which runs the playross.com website highlighting events in the Ross-on-Wye area, William Wilding and Ed O’Driscoll, did a trial run for the £10 charity shop challenge, which they are planning to coincide with Sport Relief.

The sartorially challenged pair started at EnviroAbility in Brookend Street and made their way around the town visiting lots of different charity shops.

Mr Wilding managed to buy a bowler hat and a suit, for just £2 each, from EnviroAbility. He also bought a shirt, a tie and a pair of shoes which added up to £9.98. He really wanted a pair of cufflinks to complete the ensemble but thought the task was hopeless until an assistant at Scope took pity on him and allowed him, as a one-off, to rent a pair of cufflinks for just 2p. This meant he had a complete outfit for £10.

Ed was delighted with his outfit, especially the ‘slim fit boot cut’ Guess jeans which cost £4.50 from Sue Ryder, a Chatham marine shirt which was half price at £2.25 in Oxfam and a Zara Man trilby from EnviroAbility.

Ed and William of playross.com, are organising a group challenge on Saturday, March 19th as part of the Sport Relief weekend.

They are looking for individuals or teams willing to take part, so if you are wondering what you could do to raise money that weekend - this is your chance. Just do the Challenge, and get your friends or family to support your efforts by donating to Sport Relief.

William told the Gazette: “The beauty of this event is that it’s a WIN WIN WIN event!”

Local charities get money as you shop, Sports Relief gets the money your supporters donate and you get a new set of clothes.

Visit playross.com for details of how to donate (and the rules), or you can just turn up at 1.45pm on the day at the Market House.
