What do the constestants in Strictly want to do? Stay in long enough to dance the Tango!
"Tango is a beautiful dance. It is accessible to anyone because it is a ’walking’ dance. So you don’t have to leap about, just walk," Laurie Moseley, a tango teacher, told the Ross Gazette.
He explained: "The music has a slow, almost hypnotic beat, and is often used in adverts –think of that sparkling diamond dishwasher advert.
"Don’t be put off by the spectacular lifts you might have seen on TV – that is not the real deal. The real Tango is a social dance, where dozens of couples, in a small space, with the lights down low, glide softly around the floor, weaving in and out."
Tango has surprising benefits. It encourages good posture, it tones the legs (say goodby to cellulite) and the waist (all those lovely swivels).
Most of all, it is a workout for the brain. The dancer has to be focussed on the music and their partner’s movement and everything else fades away. This is the ultimate stress buster.
This dance originated in Argentina but luckily for us, we don’t have to go all that way to learn it.
Laurie and Jan, very experienced teachers, have re-launched Ross Tango, in St Mary’s Church Hall on Thursday evenings. The beginners’ class is from 7pm until 8pm, the improvers from 8pm until 10pm, with a social break for tea or coffee, biscuits (or even cake!). The cost is £5, and everyone will be made welcome.
