The Ross Library Development Group (RLDG) held a very successful event last week with acclaimed, award-winning local food writer, cook, teacher and traveller, Lindy Wildsmith.

A large audience greatly enjoyed Lindy’s talk about some of the world’s most taste-bud teasing culinary traditions, ceviche from South America, sashimi from Japan and crudo from Italy. With immense skill, she talked and fielded a range of questions, whilst chopping, slicing and mixing: as well as fish, there was seared steak, seasonal salads and dressings, and a carpaccio of pineapple with orange and passion fruit. Needless to say, when Lindy invited the audience to come and taste, there was an eager rush to the front.

This was just the latest in a long series of monthly events organised by RLDG. These events are part of their fund-raising to supplement the resources of the library. As cuts go ever deeper it is increasingly important to offer this kind of support. Over the years they have purchased a range of items, from new seating for the Dennis Potter room, to a projector for library events. This year they have commissioned and installed a new noticeboard at the front of the library which is a great improvement on the old system of signs taped onto the windows.

But the latest presentation on Tuesday was a little unusual - a wonderful treasury of Lego to allow the library team to start a Lego club next year – fun and learning for young and old.

RLDG will be holding events in December and January, but then they will be taking a bit of a break as some major refurbishments of the library are planned by Herefordshire Council. These are due to start in February 2018. But there is no need for book lovers to worry – the library will still be open.
