Ross Tennis Centre is currently working with H&W Sports Partnership, Sport England and the Lawn Tennis Association to provide opportunities for young adults.
In their 24 hour, online society, some young people struggle with confidence and self esteem. Tennis teaches endurance, problem solving, resilience and social skills which are all essential in the world of work. The Centre has funding to run some free tennis sessions for 11-15 year olds.
The coach, Steve Barnett is looking to engage with youngsters who might not see themselves as “sporty”.
Also on offer is a free Tennis Leaders course which aims to help develop confidence and self esteem in young adults.
Steve Barnett, head coach at RTC, said:“I have lots of experience of working with young people.
“I am calling on parents with children in this age group to get in touch so that their children can benefit from the fantastic initiatives on offer. We are keen to welcome children from a disadvantaged background, to assist them realising their potential”.
Steve is also running a new project to help grow tennis participation for children and adults with disabilities. Those courses will start after Easter.
