On behalf of the Ross-on-Wye and District Christian Aid Committee, may we pass on to your readers our heartfelt thanks for the generous response that local people made in Christian Aid Week May 15th-21st .

The gratifying sum of £7950.63 was raised through the house to house collection and some special church events. Over 1500 donations were received by envelope and 250 were gift-aided, adding significantly to the total.

Most of all, we thank the local collectors for their hard work, and the churches and the Ross Gazette who helped to promote Christian Aid Week. We are indebted to Lucas Motorcycles and Wyedean Wholefoods for allowing envelopes to be dropped off at their shops.

The house to house collection included Ross Town, Bridstow and Wilton, Brampton Abbotts, Lea, Peterstow, Walford, Linton, St Weonards benefice, Aston Ingham and Upton Bishop.

The Bishop of Hereford, the Rt Revd Richard Frith, hosted a “Thank-you” evening for collectors and organisers on Thursday, June 23rd and representatives from Ross were able to be present.
