Goodrich 1st XI entertained Kington 1st XI at The Avenue, Goodrich this weekend in the GB Marches League 1st Division. The skipper S Griffiths won the toss and decided to bat on the flat track that had been prepared. A new opening pair of R Lord and R Davies went out to bat and put on 31 before both were dismissed in quick succession. The new pair of S Griffiths and J O'Brien put on 31 but again both were dismissed in quick succession. This brought in N Maddock (35) who had a flurry of partners, but with no one staying long enough to get a partnership of 20 or more. The Goodrich batsmen managed to bat for 42 overs but only got to 140 all out which was very much below par. The pick of the Kington bowlers was R Price taking 3 for 21 off 7 overs.

M Bradford took a wicket in the first over and J O'Brien brought real pace to the proceedings. After 6 overs a heavy rain shower forced the players off for a 30 minute break. On resumption the flat batting wicket had turned into a spiteful bowler friendly track, with the ball moving all over the place and spiting now and then. Bradford and O'Brien picked up a couple of wickets each but with B George (35) and R Price (20) digging in it was down to R Bastable and R Davies to finish off the match, one way or another. With the batsmen getting their 50 partnership they lost George. However Price had company from several of the Kington players and when he was dismissed the score was at 109. B Kirkham then came to the wicket and with S Turner had victory on their minds, with some lofty blows, they were eventually dismissed 7 runs short on 133.
