MADAM, May I, through your letters page, say an enormous thank you to all the people who supported us in our fight against Vodaphone. For those of your readers not familiar with the plans, they wanted to site a phone mast at the junction of Eastfield Road and Fernbank Road alongside the children's play area.
A record number of letters were sent to the council, which rejected the application, but Vodaphone would not accept the decision, and appealed against the refusal.
Very fortunately for us, the government representative decided that it would be unsuitable sited there in an area of outstanding natural beauty, so we have won. We would love to say that this is the end of it, but we feel we should consider that we have won this battle but not necessarily the war.
That being said – thank you to everyone for all their support. It just goes to show that we can change things if we are determined and fight hard enough. Thanks also to Pauline David who spearheaded the campaign and kept us all on track, and, of course, all at the Gazette.
