With great pomp and ceremony the New Ross Visitor Centre was opened on Thursday, February 17th. A large crowd of local people gathered in the Market Place to watch Brian Jackson, as the 'Man of Ross', John Kyrle, officially perform the opening ceremony.

He said the 13th century Market House, where the new Visitor Centre is based, is the heart of Ross and has always been a source of pride for the town.

Unfortunately just one week after the opening the new supervisor handed in her notice leaving the service with three very part-time assistants. opening hours were reduced in what council officials said was a temporary measure.

However at the Town Council meeting on June 13th, four months later, the problems of short opening hours was raised by a concerned member of the public. Dai Harries addressed the councillors and asked if they had read Brian Jackson's letter in the Ross Gazette of June 8th. He said Mr asked 'What is going on?' and Mr Harries said he wanted answers as well.
