THE Crown Inn has stood at the heart of Lea for centuries and since it was reopened in April 2025 it has begun to re-establish its place within village life.

The pub was originally purchased by the Savidge family in 1999 and in 2022, The Crown closed its doors for renovation work, with the aim of restoring the historic building and bringing it back into use as a place for the local community.

Since it reopened the Crown Inn has also hosted regular community events, including monthly quizzes that raise money for local charities.

In November 2025, Richard Jennings took on the role of Pub Manager, with a focus on developing the pub's role within the local community.

His plans include organising events, supporting local charities and working with other businesses in the area.

The first event on Richard's calendar will be this Bank Holiday weekend’s Beer & Cider Festival, running from Friday August 28 to Sunday, August 30.

The three-day event will feature a range of beers and ciders, alongside live music, competitions and other entertainment.

The festival is being organised as part of the pub's wider programme of community events and marks another step in The Crown's return to village life.

For Richard, the event is an opportunity to build on the pub's renewed connection with the community.

With a history stretching back hundreds of years, The Crown Inn has long been a gathering place in Lea.

The new festival is set to become the latest event in the pub's continuing story, as it looks to establish itself once again as part of the village community.

The building dates back to the 15th century and is believed to have served as an inn since the 1600s.

Today, as well as serving food and drink, the Crown Inn has sought to support local producers by sourcing ingredients from surrounding family farms.
