Ross-on-Wye was represented at the High Sheriff’s Shrieval Service on Sunday, October 9th by a number of people from Ross-on-Wye, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Ross, David and Doreen Ravenscroft, Joyce Thomas MBE DL and Paul Deneen OBE JP DL.
The theme of the service was volunteering. Bill Jackson, Herefordshire’s High Sheriff has chosen his charity for the year; the Supported Housing for Young People Project, SHYPP, which has a base in Ross, on Copse Cross Street. There are also bases elsewhere in the County, in Hereford and Leominster.
SHYPP provides vulnerable young people between the ages of 16 and 25, with housing, support, training and employment opportunities.
The organisation provides a range of accommodation suitable for young people at different stages of their lives. SHYPP strives to give young people the opportunity to develop independent living skills, identify their talents and go on to live happy and successful lives.
Mr Deneen told the Ross Gazette:?“The Service was well supported and was most enjoyable, with excellent music, and its theme of volunteering in the community and ‘making a difference’ was well received.”
