Just one day after the annual UK Anti-Slavery Day, Ross Baptist Church will be hosting a group of internationally and nationally renowned musicians who will, together, perform and tell the history of jazz with its origins amongst the plantation slaves.
On October 19th, at 7.30pm The Roots of Jazz story will be performed by Sarah Ellen Hughes (vocals), Andre ‘Saxman’ Brown (sax & vocals), Melvin Reeves (trumpet), Phil Wain (guitar), Samuel Eagles (alto), Jonathan Fashole-Luke (keyboard) and Jon Herring (drums).
Although The Roots of Jazz story has dark origins the concert conveys a message of hope founded in their faith; the music expresses joy and the slaves’ certainty of a better life awaiting them.
Some tickets are still available from: Pots & Pieces or Ross Baptist Church Office (01989 566966 / [email protected]), tickets on the door, if available: £10.00pp.
All proceeds will go to ’STOP THE TRAFFIK’
