Two of Ross' most famous institutions, the Man of Ross pub and Ross-on-Wye Cricket Club, were the victims of thieves last week.

In separate incidents, thieves intruded into both the Wye Street pub and the cricket pavilion and made off with electrical goods, cash, and alcohol.Between 9pm on Monday, June 3rd and 4pm on

Tuesday, June 4th, thieves broke the lock at the Ross Cricket pavilion. The Club's Honorary Secretary Therese Warwick told the Ross Gazette that it was the first time the pavilion had been broken into since it was built in 1887.

The intruders broke the lock off the pavilion doors and stole a television and DVD player which the club uses to show training DVDs. The stand to which the television was attached was also damaged in the course of its removal. A small plastic box holding the club's supply of tea and coffee was also stolen.

Therese said: "No one's ever broken in before. The idea of having to improve our security after all of these years is depressing. Last year's fundraising efforts were severely hampered by the weather so having to find the money for new bolts and keys is very disappointing. We're a local club."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Officers are being asked to pay attention to the area, especially in the evenings and overnight when these incidents are likely to have occurred.
