Madam, I write to express my disappointment at Cllr Dr Jane Roberts total mis-representation of what occurred at the recent Town Council meeting at which she presented her resolution. (Letters Ross Gazette January 13th.)

Whilst supporting in principle the need to cut carbon emissions in the areas of Council responsibility, I and my colleagues (as named) merely wished to postpone the resolution until the expected results of an energy survey were available, thus giving us some guidance as to the most realistic options. With this consideration an amendment to the resolution was put and carried in a democratic vote amongst those Councillors present.

It was Cllr Dr Roberts herself who suggested that maybe the floodlights at St Mary's be switched off whilst repairs to the spire were carried out.

This was considered to be counter productive as the floodlit church is one of the most inviting reasons for travellers to visit our town. At no time was there any disagreement over replacing bulbs with LED alternatives - that just makes sense.

I suggest that Cllr Dr Roberts mistakenly perceived a sensible and measured response to be obstinacy (her word). By delaying for only one month we are able to consider the expected report and take from it the best ways in which the Town Council can contribute to the 10.10 campaign.

Councillor Jennifer Hyde, Bridstow
