Three generations of a Ross-on-Wye family will be taking part in the Big Spring Walk together, on Sunday, March 13th, in memory of a loved one, who lost her battle with cancer, more than 20 years ago.
Margaret Lerego, her children Hannah, Alex, and Felix, and her granddaughter Olivia, will be walking the 11km Big Spring Walk for St Michael’s Hospice in memory of Margaret’s mother, Betty Sleeman.
“So many people have been touched by cancer, and we have as a family,” Hannah told the Ross Gazette. Although Betty never accessed St Michaels’ Hospice, the family know many people who have.
Hannah visited the hospice in January to deliver the proceeds from the Ross-on-Wye Christmas Fayre. She was impressed when she saw the new refit, and she had the opportunity to learn more about how the charity continues to support numerous local families.
In 2013, Margaret and Olivia hiked up Snowdon, for Teenage Cancer Charity. In 2013, Margaret and Hannah did the St Michael’s Hospice 10km midnight walk, and were waved off by Olivia. Olivia then did the event the following year with Hannah and she was the youngest walker to have taken part.
In 2015 Olivia and Hannah did the 5km Black Light run for Herefordshire Carers, and this year they have decided to do the 11km Big Spring Walk. It’s the first time the three generations are doing a charity event together, and it’s in memory of a previous generation.
Inspired by the women in their family, Hannah’s brothers, Alex and Felix decided to join in, and a team of five Leregos will take on the challenge together.
