Three local veterans will be presented with their Legion d’Honneur Medals at the Violette Szabo Memorial on Sunday, June 26t, which is held at the Museum in Wormelow.
The three, who are all members of the St Weonard’s and District branch of the Royal British Legion, will be presented with their medals by Mme Josette Lebrat, the French Honory Consul for Bristol and South West England. Bea Morris, of the St Weonard’s branch will introduce the presentation to Peter Davies, Peter Harness and Jim Jenkins.
Although the memorial picnic for Violette takes place every year, organiser Rosemary Rigby tries to include different and interesting items each year.
This year Allan Rose of the Royal Marines will say a few words about life in the Marines and Major Fred Greenhow MBE will give a short history of the Royal Artillery. The Countess of Wessex string quartet will play during tea.
Everyone is invited to participate in the picnic, Rosemary only asks that people bring along a small contribution and a folding chair, however many chairs they provide there are never enough.
The event starts at 1.30pm with a parade of standards from the Park in Wormelow to the Violette Szabo Museum.
Any members of British Legion branches who would like to join the procession should call Miss Rigby on 01981 540477.
