Tina Jones, who is well-known around Ross for her singing talent and her long hair, is using both these attributes to raise funds for two charities close to her heart.
On Wednesday, November 22nd Tina is organising a special fundraising event at the Wetherspoons pub, The Mail Rooms. She will be entertaining customers with her singing before, and after, she has her long locks cropped.
The evening starts at 7pm and the haircut will begin at about 7.15pm. Tina hopes lots of her friends and customers will be there to see her transformation.
Sarah Greenwold who runs the Salon in Brookend Street is cutting Tina’s hair and Tina is being sponsored for the Teenage Cancer Trust, in memory of Matt Beddard, Sarah’s nephew, and CLIC Sargent.
Tina originally set the target at £500, but she has already hit £600 so now she is hoping to make the grand total £1000.
She has set up a Virgin Money Giving fundraiser page but donations can also be left at the pub, or the Salon, along with any donations which will be used as raffle prizes at the event.
Tina told the Ross Gazette:?“This is the longest my hair has been for years. About two years ago I decided to get it cut short but then thought if I let it grow for a while I could use it to raise funds for CLIC Sargent and for everything they do for young people with cancer.”
Tina lost her soul mate, Alan Wood, to cancer. But when his son, Tina’s beloved stepson, Matt, was 19, he went through chemotherapy for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. At this time Tina realised how devastating it is to lose a child. Fortunately, at the age of 32, Matt is still in remission and that is why she has chosen CLIC and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
