THERE HAVE been calls from local business owners for an extension to CCTV provision at the lower end of Brookend Street following a number of incidents.
While there is currently one camera positioned outside Jacqueline's nightclub, its outer limits, according to Sharon Stringer, Commissioning Officer (CCTV) for Safer Herefordshire, stretches to 25 Brookend Street, rendering parts of Brookend Street with no CCTV protection at all.
She explained that to extend CCTV provision the first step would be for a member of the public to raise their concerns through the town council. "Then a Operational Requirement will take place that will, amongst other things, assess whether CCTV will be effective in that particular area or whether additional lighting, for example, would help."
In the rest of the town she pointed out that existing camera operations are being hampered, "by the flags that have been causing some obstruction."
