ROSS Tennis Centre's Ladies A Team have played three more matches with steadily improving results.
On July 11th, against Barnt Green ladies A, Brenda Saunders and Rosie Farr struggled against the young first pair, and lost in two sets. Their second match against the second couple was better, but despite a good fight were unable to win.
Heather Peachey and Karen Hockenhull, playing at two, and together for the first time started really well against the third pair but were unable to sustain it against a very experienced lady playing with a very promising youngster. Their second match against the first couple was quickly over. Gaynor Raine and Doreen Griffin had a similar experience, losing their two matches. No points for this match.
On August 8th versus Manor Park, Ellie Vicary and Gaynor had two good wins against the first and second pair, Heather, playing with new young team member Caroline Phelps beat the third pair and then went on to do really well by taking a set off the first pair. Rosie and Doreen didn't do so well but did get one set off the third pair which all helped to give the team a winning draw, four points.
The last match vs Worcester on August 22nd started helpfully with only two couples coming from Worcester which gave the team a 2-0 start. Ellie and Rosie at first pair won both matches but Gaynor with Sarah Drake at two had to go straight into playing pair one who were nicely warmed up, lost their match and it was a similar story for Heather and Caroline. This was a 4-2 win which means five points. 16 overall, it will be a close thing as to whether the team stay in Division One.
