ROSS-on-Wye Town Council plays a crucial role in funding essential local services and it is now asking residents to participate in a budget consultation for the next financial year.
A short survey has been launched to gather the views and priorities of the community.
As part of the consultation process the town council will be hosting a stall at the weekly market in Ross on Thursday, July 3 between 10am and noon and Thursday, July 10 between the same times where residents will be given the opportunity to complete the survey.
Town councillors rely on this feedback to guide them in decision making and what actions to take for the coming year in preparing to set the precept for the next financial year.
Ross Town Council consists of 18 volunteer councillors elected every four years, supported by a dedicated team of nine paid staff.
The council holds monthly council meetings, as well as various committee meetings throughout the year, focusing on areas such as planning, amenities, finance, tourism and events.
Through careful planning and management of the budget, the town council delivered a range of improvements, including undertaking the renovation of the town’s historic Market House; Investing in additional Christmas lights; Increasing community event activities; Employing a street cleansing operative and enhancing facilities at Dean Hill Park and the Ropewalk.
The council’s income is derived from several sources, including the precept (£149.11 per year for a Band D property in 2025/26, amounting to £633,200 in total precept income for that year, grant funding and income from the weekly market and the from the buildings it lets out.
The council is continuing to explore additional revenue streams to avoid increasing the tax burden on residents through the council tax.
