A new mosaic celebrating the history of Ross, with John Kyrle at its centre, will be displayed outside Ross Library, when it has been refurbished, thanks to a grant from Awards for All.

EnviroAbility, a multi-award-winning charity supporting people with learning disabilities is celebrating the grant of £5,924 to create the community mosaic which will involve people of all ages. The project aims to encourage intergenerational relations by working with care homes and schools.

The project is one of four in the County of Herefordshire and 66 in the West Midlands to receive grants totalling £499,443 in the latest round of awards.

Dennis Humble, a member of the EnviroAbility team, said: "We provide opportunities for people with learning disabilities to have a valued role within the community. This mosaic project came from talking to organisations and an artist, Janice Baratt.

"We realised we could involve people of all ages in a project that will be of benefit to the whole community. With the help of the grant, we can afford to employ a professional, like Janice, to design something of a high enough standard to be in a prominent position in the town."

Also celebrating is the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Earth Heritage Trust, who receive £5,000 to reproduce their brochure to highlight the work of the organisation. This will be available to the public and will include information on local trails, the public awareness programme and how to get involved in conservation.

Meanwhile, the Trustees of Garway Village Hall Charity are using their £6,788 grant to equip their village hall with a stage and other equipment to allow it to be used by more community groups. This will help counter isolation for older residents and increase opportunities for socialising for the whole village.

Royal Artillery Boys from around the country will be able to mark a special 50th anniversary after receiving a £5,125 Awards for All grant. Members and widows of former members of the Royal Artillery Boys living outside the West Midlands can now receive travel and accommodation assistance so they can attend the 50th anniversary of the Junior Leaders Regiment's move from Hereford to Nuneaton. The anniversary will be celebrated in April and will include a gala dinner and a trip to the National Memorial Arboretum.

John Taylor, Big Lottery Fund Head of the West Midlands region, said: "What EnviroAbility do is all about encouraging people to come together for the good of the community, and we are delighted to help them and more than 60 other deserving projects in the West Midlands securing Lottery funding of close to half a million pounds this month
