Everyone is welcome to join in the fun at Sollershope, on Sunday, May 26th, for the annual Rogation Sunday celebrations.
Proceedings get underway at 11.15am with an open-air service led by the Reverend Crispin Pemberton, which, as always, includes the blessing of pets. At 12 noon, the fun dog show gets underway, with classes for dogs and owners of all ages and abilities, with prize rosettes and the perpetual cup for the ‘Dog the Judge would most like to take home’.
If you don’t have a dog, then why not try your hand at duck racing, egg-catching, skittles, darts, coconut shy or hoopla? For foodies, there will be hot pork rolls, sandwiches, home-made cakes and strawberries and cream ; and for gardeners and bookworms a great range of plants and books of all sorts.
Well signed, and just a short distance off the B4224 with ample free parking and lots of fun for all the family.
Rogation Sunday was traditionally a day of prayer and parades as villagers walked around their area asking for blessings on their land, crops and other gifts from God.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
