MADAM, In response to your article (March 27th) regarding the application to build 10 affordable homes in Gorsley (S/123556/F), I write to outline the two main issues for objecting to the proposal, which were presented at the Herefordshire Planning Committee on April 3rd.

Local residents object primarily on the grounds of safety. The planner's report for the proposal glosses over this concern and does not take into account the serious safety issues that would be introduced by building 10 affordable homes next to the B4221. This road is a busy link road between the M50 and Gloucester, used by fast moving, heavy traffic. The limited amenities within the village could only be accessed by either crossing or walking along this dangerous road.

In addition, the site is adjacent to Ivy House Lane, which is used for parking by parents collecting pupils from the local primary school, which coincidently is at maximum capacity. This road becomes congested and dangerous at such times, a situation which will be exacerbated by the proposal. Reports that Two Rivers Housing Association proposed provision of parking to relieve this problem, which was turned down by the Parish Council is not true, let alone realistic.

Furthermore, the plans do not adequately cover basic sewage needs. Both options presented are unworkable if compliance with Building Regulations is to be achieved.

At the review meeting, Herefordshire Planning Committee elected to make a site visit to review the concerns raised about the appropriateness of the location before making a decision. Let's hope that common sense prevails and the correct decision is reached.
