Traffic in Alton Street
Madam, Has anyone else noticed that Alton Street is turning into a permanent car park?
Lines of parked cars extend as far as the eye can see, giving no-one the opportunity to politely let the occasional car pass. Once manoeuvred out onto the wrong side of the road, there is little chance of returning.
The Highway Code highlights the dangers of parking on the brow of a hill, on corners or opposite road junctions, but on Alton Street this advice seems to be ignored. Far from slowing down the traffic this chicane of parked cars encourages people to speed up to get past the obstacles.
It is not only that this thoughtless parking presents a hazard, but every Alton Street journey is now fraught with tension and lack of courtesy.
