Copies of the Linton Churchyard Trail, highlighting what is probably the oldest tree in England, will be available at a special May Day celebration.
On May Day Bank Holiday afternoon (May 1st) from 3pm the Friends of Linton Yew will reveal the leaflet that has been published thanks to a Conservation Foundation grant. It is the Conservation Foundation which believes the Linton Yew, in the churchyard of St Mary’s, is probably the oldest tree in England.
The trail also visits the grave of Linton’s greatest benefactor, the Reverend Edward Palin. He was the great-grandfather of Monty Python star and travel presenter, Michael Palin. A short history of this Saxon village, which is near to Ross-on-Wye, will be given before a guided walk along the trail. This will be followed by tea and cakes in Linton Village Hall between 4-5pm. All are very welcome.
