A large group of Travellers, who arrived in Ross-on-Wye on Tuesday night (June 28th), departed yesterday evening (Wednesday, June 29th).
The group were issued a notice to leave by Herefordshire Council on Wednesday morning, which meant that the group had until 4pm on Friday, July 1st to go.
Herefordshire Council carried out a risk assessment and welfare check when they attended the scene yesterday.
The car park has now been cleared of any litter left behind.Ross Town Councillor, Hannah Lerego, was in regular contact with Herefordshire Council throughout the Travellers' stay. She said: Thank you to those residents who took the time to report their concerns. A woman I spoke to at Herefordshire County Council said they had been inundated with complaints."She added: "I would urge residents to continue to complain to the landowners, Herefordshire County Council, by calling 01432 260000 if you have issues."The Red Meadow car park is owned by Herefordshire Council, who say they do not have any money in their budget to install in a barrier. However, Ross-on-Wye Town Council, are looking into the possibility of paying for a barrier themselves.One local resident has contacted the Ross Gazette, and said that he has plans to organise a petition, asking Herefordshire Council to pay for the barrier, as he feels it unfair that Ross-on-Wye Town Council should foot the bill, as they do not receive the revenue paid in parking fees, whereas Herefordshire Council do.
