Tributes have been paid to two men who lost their lives in a road traffic collision on the A49 near Ross-on-Wye, on Sunday, August 25th.

Friends, Jason Allen and Andrew Ralph shared a love of vintage vehicles. They died when the 1930 Ford Model A coupe Mr Allen was driving was in collision with an ambulance.

The friends were on their way to Onslow Park Steam Rally near Shrewsbury.

Mr Allen’s father told the Ross Gazette that his son had a flawless 30 plus year HGV driving career and in his spare time lived for all things vintage.

Jason Allen was 49 and lived at Lea Bailey, Ross-on-Wye, with his collection of classic lorries and cars.

Mr Allen added: “James made an impression on everyone he met through his life and will be sadly missed by his entire family and friends.” He also extended condolences to Andrew Ralph’s family.

The passenger in the vehicle was 61-year-old Andy Ralph from Malvern.

Paying tribute his family said: “Andy - known as Rabbit - was a family man who had been around transport his entire life as a professional HGV driver.

“Andy loved all things vintage and always made time for his family and friends with a smile and a chat. We will miss him dearly.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, outside Pengethley Garden Centre, Peterstow. A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “Enquiries are on-going and police are appealing for any witnesses are asked to contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting reference 155s 250819.
