Herefordshire snack brand, Two Farmers crisps are on a mission to clean up the county after a ‘clean up’ event was held in Hereford last week.

Founders Mark Green and Sean Mason hosted a community litter pick on Thursday May 12, starting at Cathedral Green.

In addition to the litter picking event, Two Farmers will be collaborating with Extended Diploma Art & Design students from Hereford College of Arts, who will be incorporating a special project into their curriculum this summer. Students will create sample artwork using the litter collected from the upcoming pick, which will be on display at the college over the month of Plastic Free July. In September, students will then create sculptures out of single-use plastic, which unfortunately can typically be found littered amongst public areas along with in hedgerows and on grass verges across our countryside and roads.

Herefordshire is lucky to already have a strong community of volunteers who have taken the rubbish crisis into their own hands. Sean Mason comments: “What the Herefordshire Litter Picking Community has been doing has made an incredible difference to public spaces in the county. Unfortunately, people still drop litter, but we hope to help educate on the damage that plastic does to the environment - particularly when dropped. We hope this encourages the public to take their rubbish to a bin.”

Mark and Sean successfully launched the UK’s first sustainable crisp brand, Two Farmers, in 2018. With a plastic-free and 100% compostable crisp packet, the award-winning, eco-friendly brand now produces up to 20,000 packets of crisps each day, reducing the amount of plastic packets out there that can typically take decades to decompose. Derived from three layers of sustainable cellulose plus plant-based and biodegradable ink and glues, the Two Farmers packets take between 26 and 38 weeks to decompose under home-composting conditions, breaking down into water, carbon dioxide and biomass.
