Two Ross residents were given Sunshine Radio Pride Awards at a ceremony on Thursday, November 3rd.
Vic Lockley was awarded Citizen of the Year, and Nicky Lee won Fundraiser of the Year. They were both nominated for the awards by Clare Lockley, who is Vic’s daughter, and a friend of Nicky.
Clare nominated Vic for his commitment to Ross and efforts to give a boost to tourism in the town. Clare said that when Vic retired, he wanted to do voluntary work, but doing a job that had not been done before.
She said that Vic had noticed that visitors to the town often looked rather lost, as there is no tourist information centre. Vic created himself a role as a town guide, to help tourists find where they needed to go, while also giving visitors a friendly first impression of Ross.
“Everyone in the family is really proud of him,” Clare told the Gazette, “And I think it’s boosted his morale a bit.”
Nicky Lee was also nominated by Clare for the Sunshine Radio Pride Award for her work with various charities. Nicky used to be a trustee of the Ross-based charity, Rocky-Lee’s Little Feet. She helped to arrange the hugely successful firewalk in July. Although she has now taken a step back from the charity, she told the Gazette she will continue to support it, as is very close to her heart.
Nicky said that she stepped down as a trustee because she wanted to expand her work with other charities. In June, Nicky lost her dad, so she arranged a sponsored walk with her colleagues at Santander to raise funds for Pulmonary Fibrosis in his memory.
Nicky told the Gazette:?“I think it’s a good result for Ross; to have two winners from the same town is outstanding.”
