LUKE JONES riding at Cadwell Park at the weekend in the Triumph Triple Challenge Championship, had two more wins to bring him closer to winning the Championships. This brings his talley to nine wins, four seconds and one fourth. He now has an advantage over second place of 99 points and needs just one point to be Champion.
He was second on the grid for the first race on Sunday. He went into the lead but made a mistake at the tight chicane and went back to fifth place. He picked one off each lap and crossed the finishing line just ahead of Phillip Atkinson by 0.535 of a second. Luke had the fastest lap which gave him pole position for the second race on Monday, which was watched by an estimated crowd of 50,000.
Luke went into the lead from the start but was passed by Tommy Dale after one of the fast corners. However, this made it a very exciting race as Tommy held Luke off until the last lap. But a superb overtaking manoeuvre saw Luke then go to win by 0.575 of a second.
This was an excellent performance from Luke, even more so when only seven days before he was in hospital waiting to have stitches in his arm after a test day crash on the HM Honda at over 100mph, and was riding in a lot of pain.
A big thank you to KGD of Hereford and all who sponsor Luke. Next meeting is at Donnington Park on September 11th.
