Ross Juniors U13 started the season with a well deserved win against a determined Hinton team to progress to the second round of the cup, despite an injury to goalkeeper Pat during the warm up.

The game was competitive, the best of the early play was an exquisite through ball from Jak and Chris that went close. The Ross defence was rock solid and it needed to be, Ollie impressive, lead by example with Joel and Rob excellent. Jak and Chris were dominating the midfield creating space for Liam and Sam with Billy and Jacob making telling runs. It was all Ross and the pressure told. Jak and Liam playing a one-two and Jak smashed the ball into the roof of the net. Sam playing wide was battling hard, Chris and Liam released Jak who beat two players but was fouled in the box, penalty. Liam stepped up and placed the ball wide of the impressive Hinton keeper to make it 2 – 0. The half closed with Liam twice going close, Chris bringing the best out of the keeper and Jak shooting just wide.

In the second half, Hinton upped their game and laid siege to the Ross goal. Ross defended with great commitment with Dexter impressing on the left and Kieran (B) quick to deal with any shots on goal. Kieran (R) and Jake provided extra effort when needed and linking to the forwards released Jak who again went close. Sam new to the team was impressing and went close. Chris released Jak who forced the keeper into a series of spectacular saves. The game was in the final minutes and Hinton grabbed a consolation but Ross held out for the win.

It was a great team performance and that bodes well for the forthcoming season.
