Madam, I was surprised and saddened to read the rather spiteful letter in the Gazette about the Maltings Post Office, which most people believe to be a great asset and one of the best run shops in Ross.
The proprietor, Mr. John Pugh, could not have been more generous in his work for The Chestnuts, which he has supported for nearly 20 years. For most of that time he has been (and still is) our Treasurer, with overall control of our finances and operating budgets, reporting, every month, to our management board on our financial welfare. This is a major commitment to a charitable home that cares for 30 highly dependent residents and has 36 employees.
Through all these years John has generously given us all this expert and invaluable time and service absolutely free of charge. I think his contribution to the good of our town is far more valuable than a little piece of sellotape!
Ray Smith
Chairman of The Chestnuts Home for the Elderly
