AS PART of the Herefordshire Histories Festival, the augmented reality Museum Without Walls in Ross-on-Wye will stage an exciting historical treasure hunt on Saturday, May 23,

The Museum Without Walls is Ross’s virtual museum, which works through an app on a smart phone or tablet. All the answers to the treasure hunt are in the app, or at the 12 museum sites around the town.

The virtual museum recreates vanished parts of Ross-on-Wye in their original locations. The createRoss project launched in 2019 with John Kyrle’s Lost Fountain on the Prospect, and among the sites in town is Underhill, the Roxy cinema, the 18th century Wye tour boats, and the railway bridges at Fiveways.

And, once the app is installed, it can be used again and again to show future visitors around the town’s past.

Participants for the treasure hunt simply need the Museum Without Walls app on their phone, and a form which they can collect on the day from St Mary's Church.

Entry sheets can be collected from St Mary’s Church in Ross between 10am and 3pm. Completed sheets must be returned by 4pm.

There is no charge to take part or to download and use the app. Prizes will include food and drink vouchers from local businesses, and a glorious star prize: a specially commissioned work of art from Rana Dekki, a hugely talented artist now living near Ross--on-Wye.

Rana Dekki said: “I have always been creative in all sorts of media. My work is very colourful since I took up glass fusing a few years ago.

“Light brings the glass to life, making it a very uplifting media to work with. My pieces are unique one-offs, I never repeat a design unless they are part of a set. It's been a great pleasure and honour to be commissioned by Museum Without Walls.”
