[UPDATE] The Met Office has today issued another yellow weather warning for the West Midlands, which includes the Ross-on-Wye area. This alert is expected to be in force until 4pm this afternoon (Friday, December 30th).
There are patches of fog and freezing fog, and visibility is predicted to be less than 100 metres. This will slowly lift and thin from most areas through today. However, some fog is likely to persist into the evening in some spots.
Driving conditions are expected to be difficult, with journeys likely to take longer than usual. Combined with temperatures below freezing, there is also the risk of ice forming on some untreated surfaces.
When driving in fog, use your low beam headlights. It is highly likely that there will be poor visibility. Heavy fog conditions prohibit use of high beam headlights as the light from high beam headlights will be reflected back by thick fog.
Also, remember to keep a greater distance a greater distance between your vehicle and the one in front; allow a gap of at least three seconds.
The Ross Gazette reported yesterday that a yellow weather warning was in force for the area, after freezing fog patches became more widespread and dense during Wednesday evening (28th December), which continued overnight and into Thursday morning (29th December).
