Herefordshire has experienced significant and widespread flooding over the past week following Storm Dennis.

Herefordshire Council are re-opening roads when safe to do so and have increased resources to respond to a heightened demand across the network.

However, several sections of the network have been particularly impacted and will need to remain closed while we carry out further assessment and repair works.

Cllr John Harrington, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Transport, said: “The flooding as a result of Storm Dennis has caused disruption and damage across the county. I would like to offer my deepest gratitude to everybody involved in the response and in the recovery, and thank you to residents, businesses and visitors for your patience and understanding while we carry out the vital works needed to get our highways network up and running again.”

Holme Lacy Causeway: The road is closed due to structural damage to the edge of the carriageway. We are currently inspecting and planning required works and are hopeful that we can start on site this week.

The road will remain closed for the next few weeks while we complete the works. We will provide further details when they become available.

Fiddler’s Green to Fownhope road: There are two affected sites on this stretch of road; a landslip and a partially collapsed retaining wall.

Due to the complex nature of these sites, repair works will take time and the current road closure is likely to be in place on a longer-term basis.

A Herefordshire Council spokesperson said: "Please be aware that these roads are not safe to use by any mode of transport and we would urge the travelling public not to ignore any road closure signs – they are in place for your safety.
