A group of volunteers from the Dhamma Dipa and Dhamma Padhana Centre at Pencoyd, near Ross-on-Wye, will be participating in a sponsored fun-run on May 12th, in Hereford, with the proceeds going to OWL Good Neighbour Scheme. This is a friendly neighbour scheme covering the areas of Orcop, Garway, St Weonards and Llanwarne, the areas which surround the Dhamma Dipa and Padhana Centre.
The Centre is proud of its strong links with the local community and holds regular open days where visitors can learn about the work it performs.
Taking part in the sponsored event is another way that they can contribute to the local community.
In the previous two years the runners raised around £600 for Llanwarne Village Hall. This year they would like to raise some sponsorship for OWL Good Neighbour Scheme. Services include gardening tasks, odd jobs around the house, looking after pets, transport to appointments, collecting medicines, library visits and others.
Everybody from these areas can call if they need assistance with any of the activities. The OWL scheme was launched by Herefordshire Council and the Diocese of Hereford to tackle loneliness in the rural areas.
A team of around 10 meditators from Dhamma Dipa whose ages range from seven to 65, will be running various distances at the St Michael’s Hospice fun run.
