Cream teas in the sunshine topped off a wonderful afternoon of celebration at Walford School when the Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Lady Darnley, opened the new Robert Pashley wing.
After a display of musical talent by pupils, and a long list of thanks yous to everyone who has contributed to the school and the building project, Lady Darnley unveiled a commemorative plaque. This will be installed in the new wing, alongside a picture of the school's benefactor Robert Pashley.
A member of the School Council presented Lady Darnley with flowers and a painting by a pupil. Lady Darnley also presented the Darnley Cup to a pupil who joined the school last year unable to speak English. The pupil has been able to take her Year 6 SAT tests this year and also makes valuable contributions to music, sporting and charitable events at the school.
Paul Deneen, the Chair of Governors thanked Lady Darnley, who was accompanied by her husband, the pupils and parents who attended, and also paid tribute to Headteacher, Louise George.
According to the lastest Ofsted report Miss George is an inspirational headteacher of a successful school.The afternoon tea was provided by members of the PTFA.
