The Annual General Meeting of the Ross & District Walking Group was held on March 28th at the Ross Golf Club. It was preceded by a walk on local lanes and footpaths and followed by a buffet lunch.
Chairman, Martin Hudson, spoke of all the walking and social activities that had taken place in the course of the year. A walking weekend in Church Stretton was a great success as well as a ceilidh, a BBQ, a skittles evening and a quiz evening. There was also the Christmas Round the Houses and the New Year’s walk.
The membership stands at 105 and members participated in 87 walks varying in distance from under five to over nine miles and graded according to difficulty. Locations of the walks covered six counties, with an average of 17 walking each time.
The walks were led and co led by 40 different members and it has been reckoned that 560 miles were walked in a whole variety of weathers. It was most unusual, but a couple of walks had to be cancelled in the summer due to extreme heat. Mary Richards was congratulated on completing, as well as leading, the most walks over the year.
Committee members were elected for the following year and all were thanked for their hard work and good organisation. Harry Britten-Austen was named as the new honorary president.
