Residents at Bridstow have stepped up their campaign for the right to be able to walk to their nearest town, Ross, and to be able to cross the road to their village school safely. One villager has joined the Parish Council in an attempt to finally get a solution to the problem. Russell Hamilton has been appointed the spokesman for the campaign.
Councillor Hamilton told The Ross Gazette: "When the A40 between England and Wales and the A49 between Ross-on-Wye and Hereford opened the village became a corridor and part of it exists as an island.
Together with local resident, Deborah Bullock, Cllr Hamilton accompanied a Ross Gazette reporter on a walk from Ross to Bridstow.
They pointed out the time it took waiting for a clear passage across the roads and the speed of the vehicles.
Cllr Hamilton said: "At no time in the past has proper consideration been given to the impact on our local community.
"The lack of safe pedestrian crossings means that people within our community either use their car to travel a short distance into Ross or in many cases once in their car, take their business further afield to Hereford or Monmouth.
