Madam, It was interesting to read our MP, Jesse Norman's letter in last week's Ross Gazette. I, for one, am even more confused following his clarification.
Despite widespread publicity of the Peaceful Protest held at the Market House in Ross, many present were surprised and disappointed that Jesse Norman was not there. Even if he felt it a lost cause his attendance in support of the numerous people who have contacted him would have been appreciated, together with an explanation as to why he could not help further if this is the case. The Chestnuts closure has affected in the region of 60 staff and residents, adding their families and concerned Ross townsfolk, numbers are well into 3 figures.
In his letter our MP states:?"'This matter has not concerned the issue of rent alone, but questions of care policy as well as the treatment of residents."
This seems an ambiguous statement which can (and has by many I have spoken to) been taken to mean there is a question mark over treatment of residents. The Chestnuts has always been acknowledged as an excellent residential home with the highest standards of care from dedicated compassionate staff. Even the vague suggestion of anything other than this by an unwise choice of words is extremely upsetting to all concerned. Worse still, it could have a detrimental effect on staff looking for new employment if a prospective employer were to infer from this letter that there was some sort of problem at The Chestnuts.
He also said:?"Not a party political matter". That is irrelevant. Many constituents from the Ross area are merely turning to their MP for support, as they would do whatever his political allegiance.
