When Weston under Penyard School pupil Lydia Farmer took a copy of the Ross Gazette to school to show her friends the picture of her brother Reid on the front page they quickly agreed to wear their jeans for genes and raise money for the charity.
Headteacher Brian Bird told the Ross Gazette:?"As a school we were really pleased to take part in Jeans for Genes Day especially when one of our pupils told us all about raising money for the charity which helps her brother."
Lydia added:?"I want to thank all my friends for wearing their jeans to school and bringing in £1 for the charity."
Pupils and staff at the school Reid attends, Barrs Court Special School in Hereford, were also delighted to wear denim for a day. Reid has Fragile X Syndrome, a rare genetic condition, which leads to delays in walking and intellectual development. However Reid is supported by the Herefordshire Learning Disability Trust which also supports his school and which in turn is supported by the charity Jeans for Genes.
